Biography/Mary Kiffmeyer
Because of her commitment to election integrity developed while an election judge for 11 years, Mary entered the political spotlight in 1999 as Secretary of State and served until 2006. In 2009, she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, where she currently serves. Among her many accomplishments as Secretary of State, was aiding Minnesotans to lead the nation in voter turnout, in 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006. In 2004, Minnesota had 77.7% voter turnout, the highest in the state since 1960. She also transformed the office website for voter information, election results, a My Ballot feature and a precinct finder system in use today in addition to several data conversions projects in business services division. Rep. Kiffmeyer initiated legislation to establish the Safe At Home program for battered women to vote while keeping their address private. She has received several awards among them the LedAnn Elliott Excellence in Election Administration from Kids Voting USA As a legislator, Mary authored a proposed constitutional amendment for Voter ID, which passed through the legislature and will appear on the ballot in November 2012.
Married for over 44 years, Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer counts raising 4 children and enjoying involvement with her 14 grandchildren as one of her greatest delights in life. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, she is also a small business owner and very involved in her community, including: American Legion Auxiliary, previously serving on the local hospital and nursing home board, Community Education Advisory Council and a variety of church activities.
